COM’S PHI THETA KAPPA MEMBERS VOLUNTEER FOR “SCOUTING ON THE BOARDWALK”
TEXAS CITY
-- College of the Mainland students Merretta Vasquez and Taylor Hernandez volunteered to teach a class on American cultures as part of the “Scouting on the Boardwalk,” an event for Boy Scouts of America groups from Texas.
Vasquez, of Texas City, and Hernandez, of Galveston, both are members of Phi Theta Kappa, the national community college honor society. Their volunteer work was recognized at the COM Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday.
“I thought it was amazing,” Vasquez said. “All of the boys were intelligent and eager to learn. We talked about different cultures and how they shape our country.”
College of the Mainland offers a wide range of classes, from nationally accredited associate degrees and certifications to skills, hobbies and trades. COM has an excellent professor-to-student ratio that helps instructors connect with their classes. We’re the launch pad for success stories throughout the Mainland.
