The Hospitality Center Benefits from Local Foundation Grants
The Hospitality Center daily food service for the poor in Port Arthur has recently received generous grant funding from two local foundations to help it begin its 25th year of operations with a strong show of support from area donors.
The Beaumont Foundation of America has been a regular supporter of the Center, and continued its support in 2012 through a grant of $31,450 to help sustain the daily meal service. The Reaud Charitable Foundation also contributed a large undisclosed sum to sustain the service and to permit the purchase of additional food during the course of the year.
The Center, located at 3959 Gulfway Drive in Port Arthur, is a program operated by Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas. This year marks its 25th anniversary of providing a hearty midday meal every day of the year.
The Center annually feeds in excess of 40,000 meals, thanks to the commitment of hundreds of volunteers who assist the Center’s Director and sole employee, Christina Vara Green.
“We are blessed to begin our special anniversary year with the support of the Beaumont Foundation and the Reaud Charitable Foundation,” said Carol Fernandez, President/CEO of Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas.
“Those organizations have consistently demonstrated a concern for the needs of the guests served at the Center and set a strong example of support for the truly vulnerable. We are grateful for partners like them in our efforts to combat the effects of poverty.”
