Missouri City to Host Public Hearing on CDBG Funding;
Meeting Set for Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers

On Monday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers, Missouri City invites all residents to attend a public hearing on the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program.

City staff would like to receive citizen input about community needs and priorities before determining how the Fiscal Year 2012 funds will be allocated.

Also during the public hearing, a pre-application workshop will be held for subrecipient agencies who are interested in requesting CDBG funding. These community programs provide direct services to individuals and families; examples of such businesses include after-school childcare providers and counseling and nutrition programs.

The overall goals of the national CDBG program are as follows:

*Improving the urban environment in low and moderate income areas;

*Eliminating blighting influences and the deterioration of property, neighborhoods and public facilities in low and moderate-income areas; and

*Ensuring decent, safe, sanitary housing for low and moderate-income residents

Cities that receive CDBG monies must allocate at least 71 percent of funds for activities that benefit low- and moderate-income individuals such as rehabilitation of owner-occupied housing and infrastructure improvements.

In addition to discussing the CDBG program, residents will also participate in a forum on fair housing and related issues.

Citizens unable to attend the public hearing are encouraged to mail their comments to: City of Missouri City Development Services Department, Attention: Nancy Desobry, 1522 Texas Pkwy., Missouri City, Texas, 77489 or fax them to 281-208-5551. Comments should be mailed or faxed before March 9.
