Founders Memorial Park Cemetery Walking Tour
Meets outside cemetery gate, 1217 West Dallas Avenue
2 p.m., Sunday, February 12, 2012
Spend Sunday afternoon with some of the most important people in Houston's history during GHPA’s guided walking tour of Founders Memorial Park Cemetery. One of the city’s few remaining physical links to the Republic of Texas, Founders is the final resting place of many veterans of the Battle of San Jacinto, government officials from the days of the Republic and John Kirby Allen, one of the Allen brothers who founded Houston. The tour tells the stories of those buried here and explores the history of this significant cemetery.
Registration for the tour begins at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, outside the gate of Founders Memorial Park at 1217 West Dallas [map]. Requested donation is $10 per person ($7 for GHPA members and students with valid ID). Children 11 and under are admitted free.
Street parking is available in the vicinity of Founders Memorial Park. Please pay close attention to the posted parking regulations. Parking is not allowed in the cemetery. There are no restrooms on the site.
