Mardi Gras 2012
World's Largest Choreographed Umbrella Dance

Saturday, February 11, 2012

Friday night during Mardi Gras, Galvestonians turned out in mass for a truely grass roots effort to beat the record for the largest choreographed umbrella dance in the world.

And they succeeded and had great fun doing it.   Neighborhood groups from the University Area and East End Historic District, businesses, Mardi Gras Krewes,  politicians, etc… all joined as one to help out and bring the limelight to Galveston’s downtown.

Folks danced the Hokey Pokey for five minutes, which seemed like a very long time, but was well worth it to set the new record.

The Funky Uptown Umbrella Brigade parade winded around the Strand and Mechanic Streets and ended up at 22nd and Mechanic for the big dance.
