GALVESTON ISLAND, TEXAS - Grab your colored markers, crayons or colored pencils and enter the 17th annual Grand Kids Festival Banner Design Contest.  Deadline for entries is Monday, February 20th.  Entries may be created with colored markers (preferred), crayons, or colored pencil.

Open to students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade, this is not your average coloring contest. In  this competition, the winning designs are actually re-created by the winning students on vinyl banners and displayed from light posts for all to see! Displayed throughout the grounds of The Grand Kids Festival, that will take place on Saturday, April 14th, on Postoffice Street – between 20th and 23rd – in historic downtown Galveston -  this contest partners kudos and artwork – all in one!  Banner designs will also be re-created as the cover artwork on special note cards available for sale at the festival.

Each year the Banner Design Contest has a specific theme – and this year’s theme is “Children’s Literature”. Be it a drawing of your book, or a character in a book you’ve read or heard about, this contest is sure to stretch one’s imagination.

The panel of judges (The Grand Kids Festival organizing committee) will select four winning entries from each of the grade groups outlined below. Each age category will have a First, Second and Third place winner as well as an Honorable Mention winner.

Winners will recreate their banners, win tickets to The Grand Kids Festival for their family, and will receive a Grand Kids Festival t-shirt and a set of note cards featuring their winning design.

Four winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd and Honorable Mention) to be selected from each Grade category include:

·         Kindergarten – Second (2nd) Grade

·         Third (3rd) – Fourth (4th) Grade

·         Fifth (5th) – Sixth (6th) Grade

·         Seventh (7th) – Eighth (8th) Grade
