Wednesday, February 15, 2012

The new railroad bridge alongside the new Galveston Causeway was put into place on Tuesday.

The 382 foot long, 1,580 ton vertical lift railroad bridge is a joint project of several entities.

The United States Coast Guard is paying 95 percent of the construction cost with the remainder of the cost divided between Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, the city of Galveston, the Port of Galveston and Galveston County.

The contractors on the project are Cianbro Brasfield & Gorrie, Joint Venture.
