The Galveston Park Board of Trustees on Tuesday met and discussed a contract that is in negotiations with Galveston County Commissioners Court for the rebuilding of Galveston's pocket parks, which were damaged during Hurricane Ike.
The negotiations are for three parks on the island's west end.
“We are finalizing those negotiations with the county, which owns those parks, and the park board would rebuild them and manage them,” Board Chair Craig Brown said.

The board voted 5-0-2, with Steve Greenberg and Miguel Aleman abstaining, to approve a contract with Galveston.com to provide the concept of an “Island Pass” for downtown attractions and events.
“The island pass would give the public quite a discounted rate on all attractions if they are bought where you package a number of these attractions together,” Brown said. “So this is quite a cost-savings for families and for other individuals, tourists and locals alike, that would like to participate in the attractions that are on the island.”
The board discussed bids for the Apffel Park Pavilion. Changes are being made to the contract, and will be provided to bidders for the construction of the new pavilion.
The board voted unanimously to name Joyce Calver McLean as representative to the Tourism Development Advisory Committee.
The board also approved soliciting proposals for private for-profit groups to provide an RV Park at Seawolf Park.
All other action items were approved by unanimous vote.
