Bay Area Houston Gulf Coast Big Brothers Big Sisters
Galveston County
Texas City City Commission
by Garrett Bryce
Thursday, February 16, 2012

The Texas City City Commission on Wednesday voted unanimously to amend the city's FY2012 Budget to appropriate $200,000 in funds for the rebuilding of the First Lady Pavilion.

The pavilion had been destroyed during Hurricane Ike.

The city commission voted to approve an interlocal agreement with Galveston County for the rebuilding of Century Boulevard.

The county will partially fund the project through bonds approved by the voters in 2008. The county will provide $600,000 in funds to the project, as well as an additional $1 million contingent on the city providing matching funds, providing a total of $2.6 million from the county and city combined.

The city commission voted to order a general election for May 12. The position of mayor and all six commission seats will be on the ballot. Candidate filing for the election continues through March 5.

The city commission voted to authorize aerial spraying for the abatement of mosquitoes by the Galveston County Mosquito Control District.

All items were approved. All votes were unanimous with Dedrick Johnson, Sr. absent. Agenda
