Commission for Women Seeking Nominations for Texas Women’s Hall of Fame

Austin, Texas - The Texas Governor's Commission for Women is seeking nominations of outstanding women for the Texas Women's Hall of Fame, which celebrates accomplishments of Texas women who have made significant contributions in areas such as business, education, philanthropy, military and public service.

"The Texas Women's Hall of Fame allows the Lone Star State to honor women whose outstanding accomplishments continue to make our state the best place to live, work and raise a family," Gov. Perry said. "By recognizing these outstanding women, we are also inspiring young Texans to work hard and become the great leaders of tomorrow," Gov. Perry said.

Nominees must be native or current Texas residents, and their noted achievement must have significant ties to Texas. Nominations must be submitted by March 9, with the induction ceremony taking place this fall. Nomination forms are available at http://www.governor.state.tx.us/women or by calling (800) 839-5323.

"Texas is home to so many exceptional women who have accomplished extraordinary things and made significant differences in our state and our country," Governor's Commission for Women Executive Director Lesley Guthrie said. "Recognizing these inspiring women is one way to give back to them, and I encourage anyone who knows of someone who should be honored to submit a nomination."

The Texas Women Hall of Fame was established in 1984, and more than 100 women have been inducted, including former first ladies, astronauts, entrepreneurs and Olympic athletes. The permanent exhibit honoring these women, which features biographies and photographs of inductees, was established by the Governor's Commission for Women in 2003 at Texas Woman's University's in Denton.
