Galveston ISD kicks off application drive for 2012-2013 school year
Forms due by 4 p.m. on Friday, March 9 at GISD Support Center; Pre-Kindergarten, 4th grade, and Weis 5th and 6th grade students are required to fill out an application

GALVESTON, Texas – The Galveston ISD Curriculum and Instruction Office is now accepting applications for the 2012-2013 school year until 4 p.m. on March 9. Parents must fill out the application forms and turn them in by that deadline at the Curriculum and Instruction Office at the GISD Support Center at 3904 Ave. T, Galveston, TX 77550 or mail it by March 9 in order to have the forms accepted.

Please visit www.gisd.org/schoolsofchoice to download an application or you may pick up an application at the GISD Support Center or at any GISD school you wish to select.

Galveston ISD is a schools of choice district, meaning parents and students may choose the school they wish to attend based on the curriculum offered, not location. Students are eligible to be bused to the campus they attend, except for Crenshaw Elementary and Middle School on Bolivar peninsula.

Students entering Kindergarten or Grade 5 must fill out an application for the 2012-2013 school year. A current placement in Pre-Kindergarten at a GISD school does not guarantee a placement in Kindergarten at the same campus, especially if the application form is not completed and turned in by the March 9 deadline.

Students in the Grades 5 and 6 at Weis must also submit an application. Incoming 9th grade students interested in attending Ball Preparatory Academy or AIM College and Career Preparatory must fill out an application. Those who do not fill out an application to either school will automatically be placed at Ball High.

Be sure to state your top three campus options on the form. GISD will make every attempt to grant applicants their first choice. If there are more applicants than spaces for any program other than Austin Middle School, a lottery will be conducted. The district will make every attempt to give those who did not receive their first choice their second choice.

The GISD mailing address is:
Galveston ISD
Attn: Curriculum and Instruction Office
P.O. Box 660
Galveston, TX
77550

Any student who wishes to transfer from one school to another may apply to do so (other than to Ball Preparatory for 11th and 12th grade). However, transfer is dependent on space available in that grade level. If there are more applicants than spaces for that grade, a lottery will be conducted.
