“Gift of Life” and TOTAL Provide Free Mammograms
Beaumont, Texas – Through the generous support of TOTAL Port Arthur Refinery, 34 medically underserved women received free Julie Rogers “Gift of Life” Program mammograms and clinical breast exams on the UTMB Mobile Mammography Van at the Elmo Willard Library in Beaumont yesterday.
“The TOTAL Port Arthur Refinery is proud and honored to support an organization saving so many lives,” said TOTAL Materials and Services Supervisor, Randy Sonnier, who visited the site to meet the grateful women.
Beaumont resident Brandie White followed the important advice of her mother, a breast cancer survivor, to have her first “Gift of Life” mammogram during the van’s visit and expressed her gratitude to TOTAL for making this vital service available to women in the region.
“I lost a friend to breast cancer when she was 25 years old, and I am glad my mother told me about the ‘Gift of Life’ so I could get checked,” White said. “This is an excellent program, and I appreciate it.”
Since 2002, TOTAL has annually sponsored “Gift of Life” van sites, both individually and by partnering with BASF FINA Petrochemicals, LP in Miracle Match for Life, making available more than 1,000 free mammograms for medically underserved Southeast Texas women and extending the lives of ten women who were diagnosed with breast cancer and navigated through treatment.
Applications are currently being accepted for free “Gift of Life” mammograms and prostate cancer screenings. To find out if you qualify, please call the “Gift of Life” at (409) 833-3663 or toll-free (877) 720-GIFT (4438). Appointments are necessary as space is limited.
