GALVESTON, TX – Beginning  March 1, Gulf Coast Center, mental health authority for Galveston and Brazoria Counties, will offer Children Services Program at 4444 W. Main, League City.

Melissa Tucker, Director of Children’s Services, stated “We are expanding programs and services in order to address the rapidly growing population in the northern part of Galveston County. We will continue to serve clients in the Texas City clinic and hope that families further north will take advantage of the convenience of the new location in League City.”

Gulf Coast Center Children Services Program offers family-focused, community based mental health services and supports targeted to children and their families. Services and supports for children and their families are individualized based on family strengths and needs. Services are available to resident children of Galveston and Brazoria Counties who are between the ages of 3 and 17. Services are available in schools, after hours and weekends and include:

  • Crisis Intervention
  • Screening
  • Assessment
  • Routine Case Management
  • Intensive Case Management utilizing a Wraparound Approach
  • Treatment Planning
  • Medication Related Services (including psychiatric evaluation and medication monitoring)
  • Family Support
  • Respite
  • Skills Training (in-home and school based)
  • Family Skills Training
  • Mental Health Information Training (Medication Training and Support)
  • Liaison Services
  • Flexible Community Supports
  • Individual, Family and Group Therapy
  • In-Home Crisis intervention

Criteria to participate in Gulf Coast Center’s Child Services Program are:

  • Diagnosis of a mental illness with evidence of serious emotional, behavioral or mental disturbance. Axis I Diagnosis exclusions:
    • a single diagnosis of pervasive developmental disorder;
    • a single diagnosis of substance abuse;
    • a single diagnosis of autism or intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Serious functional impairment;
  • At risk of disruption of a preferred living or child care environment due to psychiatric symptoms; or
  • Enrolled in a school system's special education program because of a serious emotional
