Seven Contestants Swing In to Win Mr. Habitat 2012

Beaumont, Texas – Habitat for Humanity will host its annual fundraiser, Mr. Habitat, Saturday, February 25 at the Holiday Inn & Suites Beaumont Plaza on Walden Road beginning at 6:30 p.m. Seven male contestants are vying for the Mr. Habitat title through a series of fun competitions.

Each contestant will have the opportunity to strut the catwalk in homebuilding attire and evening attire. Habitat hunks will also participate in a “building” competition, which in previous years has been timed Lincoln Log building, birdhouse construction and LEGO challenges. Each year the building project is a surprise! Lastly, the audience gets to know the contestants through an interview.

“My favorite part of the competition is the People’s Choice Award,” said Executive Director Uliana Trylowsky. “The guys have been collecting money for months and continue to do so through the competition. We then collect their cash and donations add them up and announce the winner – the People’s Choice. Dollars are always my favorite.”

Dollars help decide the winner of this entertaining event, open to the public and costing $45 a ticket, but “official” judges make the final decision. This year three female judges include Vicki Bauer, certified etiquette teacher and owner of The Southeast Texas Etiquette School at Bauer Ranch; Sydney Matthews, Junior and Senior Cotillion Director; Marcia Crone judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

KBTV Fox 4’s Brian Glenn and KFDM Channel 6’s Ashley Gaston will emcee this comedic event, and Katie Whitney and The Draw will entertain during the cocktail hour.

Trylowsky hopes the end result will be the raising of one house in 2012.

“Last year we raised $40,000 during the Mr. Habitat event, this year we want to raise a house - $60,000,” said Trylowsky. “And with this group of guys working the crowd we just might do it.”
