ACCT to help promote National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day
The AIDS Coalition of Coastal Texas (ACCT) is one of 100 agencies nationwide that will participate in activities promoting the Office on Women’s Health National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.
As part of its participation, ACCT will offer free HIV testing that day, as well as host a screening of “Many Women One Voice – African-American Women and HIV.” They will have a guest speaker and discussion of how to engage the community more in raising awareness of HIV and AIDS.
The event is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 7 at the ACCT offices, 707 Tremont St. in Galveston. For information, call (409) 763-2437.
ACCT was founded in 1985 for the purpose of providing compassionate community based education and services that empower people of all ages to live courageously with HIV/AIDS. It offers a variety of services including HIV testing, counseling, a food pantry, help with prescription drug payments and transportation.
National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is a nationwide observance to raise awareness of the increasing effect of HIV/AIDS on women and girls, and empower people and communities to take action.
