Catherine Taylan VeniegasCatherine Taylan Veniegas age 67 of Galveston died Sunday, March 18, 2012 at JohnSealyHospital in Galveston with her family by her side. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father E.E. Stein officiating. Burial will follow at CalvaryCatholicCemetery in Galveston under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home and a Rosary will be recited at 6:30 P.M.

Catherine was born December 22, 1944, In Dingras, llocos Norte, Philippines. She relocated to Galveston in 1974, and made it her home. She devoted her time and love to raising and supporting her family. First earning her living as a teacher in the Philippines, and then at SacredHeartCatholicSchool for 5 yrs. She later served the UTMB Medical Records Dept for 25 yrs. After her retirement, she loved to spend time tending to her garden and taking casino trips with family and friends. In her last few weeks, she took great pride and joy in welcoming and holding her first grandchild.

Preceded in death by her parents, Rodrigo and Consolacion Taylan and brother, Gomer Taylan, Sr., survivors include her husband of 33 yrs, Quirino Veniegas; daughter, Cathy Veniegas; daughter and spouse,  Jeffrey and Crystal Houlton; grandson, Caleb Houlton; nephew and spouse, Marshall and Mary Taylan, their children,  Averie and Gavin Taylan; and her siblings, Thelma Calapan, Norma Rosqueta, Shirley Alviza, Melba Buado, Warlita Dondonay, Ernesto Taylan, and Marilou Bueta; their spouses; and numerous nephews, nieces, extended family, and friends.
