HOUSTON — The Coast Guard medevaced a man from a tanker ship 12 miles off the coast of Galveston, Monday.

Watchstanders at Sector Houston-Galveston received a report at 6:20 p.m., that a 43-year old male crewmember aboard the Eagle Sibu, a 799-foot tanker vessel, was suffering from chest pains.

Coast Guard Air Station Houston launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and rescue crew to the scene at approximately 7:20 p.m. 

The rescue crew successfully hoisted the man off the Eagle Sibu and transported him to awaiting emergency medical services at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Video

“The Coast Guard’s number one goal is the safety of life at sea, and we take every case seriously,” stated Petty Officer 1st Class Christopher Kiener, a watchstander for Sector Houston-Galveston. “Thanks to the hard work and coordination of both Sector Houston-Galveston and Air Station Houston personnel, we were able to quickly and safely transport this injured man to a local hospital.”

The man's condition is unknown.
