The Port of Beaumont Board of Commissioners today voted unanimously to award a contract to Bo-Mac Contractors, Inc. for emergency demolition of a transit shed and portion of the dock at Wharf No. 4 for safety reasons.
"A portion of the No. 4 dock had a failure," Port Director Chris Fisher said. "On that portion, it damaged the transit shed. So, we're taking the transit shed down and then we'll demolish a small portion of the dock that's still standing but is not as stable as we'd like for it to be, so we'll demolish that for safety purposes."
Fisher said the port will consider the dock's future as part of its master planning process.
Prior to approval of the item, the board heard a presentation by Lanier and Associates regarding the inspection of Wharves No. 2, 3 and 4.
The board voted unanimously to amend a lease agreement with Shawcore Pip Protection regarding the lease of property owned by the port. Shawcor currently leases 17 acres of property, and the amendment will provide an additional 13 acres, for a total of 30 acres. The additional land will be used for construction of concrete pipe coating.
The board voted unanimously to move forward with a process to issue refunding bonds for the 2001 Series Revenue Bonds. Prior to approval of the item, the board heard a presentation by Specialized Public Finance, Inc. regarding the possible issuance of refunding bonds. The bonds would refinance the 2011 revenue bonds at a lower interest rate.
All action items were approved. All votes were unanimous with Commissioner Georgine Guillory absent. Agenda
During the meeting, the board also heard a presentation by Jefferson Refining, LLC regarding potential business opportunities with the port.
