Galena Park teacher re-elected to TCTA Council
AUSTIN — Janie Baszile, a special education teacher of math/science at the Gerald Cobb Sixth Grade Campus in the Galena Park Independent School District, has been re-elected as district 4 director for the Texas Classroom Teachers Association. Her new two-year term will begin June 1, 2012. Elections were held in February at TCTA's annual convention in Houston. Founded in 1927, TCTA is an independent, nonunion association for Texas teaching professionals, which serves 50,000 members across the state.
Baszile was re-elected by convention delegates from district 4, the Gulf Coast area she represents on the TCTA Directors’ Council. As a Council member, she helps set policy for the statewide association and assists leaders of TCTA local affiliates in her seven-county area.
A member of TCTA for more than 25 years, Baszile has also served at the statewide level as 2007-08 president, chair of the Teacher Personal Services committee, director-at-large, and as a member of various committees. She also recently completed a five-year term on the State Board for Educator Certification, which oversees all aspects of the preparation, certification, and standards of conduct of public school educators.
Also active on the local level, Baszile has served the Galena Park Classroom Teachers Association as president, faculty representative and chair of various committees.
The 2012-13 TCTA Council also will include Teresa Koehler of Clear Creek, serving as statewide chair of the Professional Rights & Responsibilities committee; James R. Merrell of Galena Park, serving as statewide chair of the Teacher Personal Services committee; and Shawnye L. Thomas of Lamar and Tammy Whittaker of Clear Creek, serving as district 4 directors.
TCTA is based in Austin and is the only statewide teacher association that limits active-level membership to those directly involved in classroom teaching or teaching support.

AUSTIN — Tammy Whittaker, a special education teacher at Clear Creek High School in the Clear Creek Independent School District, has been re-elected to a one-year term as district 4 director for the Texas Classroom Teachers Association. Her new term will begin June 1, 2012. Elections were held in February at TCTA's annual convention in Houston. The Clear Creek ISD teacher was re-elected by convention delegates from district 4, the Gulf Coast area she represents on the TCTA Directors’ Council. As a Council member, Whittaker helps set policy for the statewide association and assists leaders of TCTA local affiliates in her seven-county area.
A longtime TCTA member, Whittaker is also active in the Clear Creek Classroom Teachers Association and serves as a faculty representative for her campus.
