Pearland City Council on Monday voted unanimously to approve a contract with Brazoria County Municipal Utility District No. 4 for the operation and maintenance of the district’s water and sewer system.
“On December 31, 2012, the City of Pearland will annex Brazoria County MUD No. 4, Country Place, and will take over ownership and operation of the district’s water and sewer system,” City Manager Bill Eisen said. “Since its creation, the MUD has contracted with a private company to operate its water/wastewater system. However, the district’s board has become increasingly concerned about their operator’s ability to operate the system and provide the management information that the board believes to be essential to monitor operations. Consequently, the board has notified the operator that its contract will be terminated on May 1, 2012.”
In order to avoid changing operators of the system twice within eight months, the district has requested that the city take over operation of the system in May, as opposed to after the district’s annexation, Eisen said.
Under the contract, the city would receive a flat rate of $25,833 per month for the seven-month period before the district is annexed.
The city council voted to award a $169,305 contract to GW Phillips Concrete Construction for the installation of sidewalks and related drainage improvements at Hawk Road, South Houston Street and Walnut Street.
Funding for the project will come through the Community Development Block Grant Program for 2009.
The city council voted to award an estimated $51,000 contract to Waukesha-Pearce Industries, Inc. for semi-annual preventative maintenance service to be performed on generators owned by the city.
All items were approved, except an item regarding the city manager’s evaluation and performance goals for 2011-2012, which was not acted upon. All votes were unanimous with Mayor Pro Tem Scott Sherman absent. Agenda
