Fort Bend County
Sugar Land City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Wednesday, April 25, 2012

Sugar Land City Council, in a special meeting on Tuesday, voted unanimously to approve a lease commencement date agreement with Opening Day Partners, LLC for the new Constellation Field minor league baseball stadium.

The agreement sets a new date for the 25-year lease of April 21.  The agreement previously stated that Opening Day Partners’ lease of the stadium would begin on April 30, which is the date of substantial completion of the new ball field.

“However, Opening Day Partners, LLC, Sugar Land Skeeters, wish to hold an early high school baseball event prior to Substantial Completion occurring by which they will be occupying and taking possession of the stadium,” Director of Economic Development Regina Morales said.

Under the new lease date agreement, the city will agree to continue to perform work on the stadium for its completion date of April 30.  A temporary certificate of occupancy has been provided for the stadium.

No other action items were on the agenda.  All members were present for the meeting.

During a workshop portion of the meeting, the city council discussed the policy initiative for the city’s community information signs, as well as received an update on the city’s master thoroughfare plan. Agenda
