2012 Lunar Rendezvous King is Announced
At Sunday’s Lunar Rendezvous Festival Kick Off Party the new King was announced. Jay Gurry will be presiding over the Festival, along with Queen Peyton Barrier, Queen Alternate Danni Cantu, and Captain Brooks Kubena.
King Jay Gurry is a Clear Lake home-towner who graduated with honors from Clear Creek High School then went on to Texas A&M University. After graduation, Jay was accepted to Flight School where he finished at the top of his class in “Undergraduate Pilot Training”, “Lead in Fighter Training”, F-4 School and F-16 School. He received numerous awards while serving as a fighter pilot in the military including the “Air Force Achievement Medal” for saving an F-16 after experiencing an engine failure, and the “Air Force Commendation Medal” for steering a crippled F-16 away from populated areas before ejecting. Perhaps that is why his friends describe Jay as hard-working, successful – and lucky.
Along with his business interests, as the President of Gurry Mechanical and Gurry Commercial Investments, Jay has become a community volunteer. He is a current Board Member and past Board President of Communities In Schools- Bay Area, a former Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Gateway Community Church, a former Board Member of the EA Smith YMCA Board of Directors and a Friendswood Little League Coach. Jay was an Honoree at The Bay Area Turning Point’s, 2008 “Men and Women of Heart” Gala.
This year’s King has a long family history of Lunar Rendezvous support and involvement:
His Sister Kendall was a Princess in 1980, his daughter, Erika, was a Little Lady in 1999 and a Princess in 2010, his daughter, Sydney, was a Little Lady in 2004 and his father, Ken, was the King in 2000.
Jay has been married to Kimberley (the love of his life) for 20 years. They have three children, Erika, Sydney and Trey. During his leisure time, Jay enjoys fishing, hunting, snow tubing, and jumping off of big rocks, with his kids.
