Port of Brownsville to Hold Dedication Ceremony for International Seafarer Center
Brownsville, Texas - The Port of Brownsville will be hosting a Dedication Ceremony for the International Seafarer Center on Monday, April 30, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. Guests must present a valid U.S. Government I.D. to gain access to the ceremony.
The Center has been in operation since 1974 providing a ‘home away from home’ enabling seafarers to go ashore, relax, shop and call home. For 35 years the Center operated from a mobile home that was refurbished several times after storms, but finally retired in 2009. At present the Center is furnishing and moving into a new facility it will lease from the Port. The new facility will be a great improvement to the quality of service provided and will include internet and wi-fi access. New security regulations since 9/11 mean that the Center is one of the few organizations that can enable seafarers to enjoy the hospitality of our city. For Rev. Will Aten who began this work in humble circumstances with a heart to serve the nations in the love of Christ this is a dream come true. If you wish to contribute financially to furnishing the Center, please contact Chaplain Andreas Lewis at 956-831-4321 or at International Seafarer Center, P.O. Box 4033, Brownsville, TX 78523.
