Closure Begins at Midnight on Sunday, April 29; Expected to Re-open By May 4
Galveston, TX – The intersection of 25th Street and Seawall Boulevard will close at midnight this Sunday, April 29, to allow contractors to install brick pavers in the roadway. The intersection is expected to remain closed for four days to safely allow crews to complete the work. East and westbound vehicular traffic will be detoured to nearby side streets for the duration of the project. Signage alerting drivers to the closure is already in place.
Vehicular Traffic Detours:
* Traffic traveling eastbound on Seawall will be diverted north on 27th Street, east along Avenue P ½, and south on 23rd Street back to Seawall Boulevard.
* Traffic traveling westbound on Seawall will be diverted north on 23rd Street, west along Avenue P ½, and south on 27th Street back to Seawall Boulevard.
City officials are encouraging motorists to avoid the area, if possible, during the construction window. Avenues O and P as well as Broadway Boulevard are possible alternate routes for east and westbound vehicular traffic. During morning and evening rush-hour, Galveston Police officers will provide traffic control at key intersections along the detour route to enhance the flow of traffic.
This construction schedule may shift depending on weather and materials.
