Heavy Truck Accident Closes US 290 at Hegar Rd.
Travelers are urged to choose another route

Houston TranStar officials are advising the public that all main lanes of US 290 the Northwest Freeway at Hegar Road are closed because of a fatality accident involving a heavy truck. The big rig hit a concrete barrier, overturned and spilled hot asphalt on the pavement. The spill must be cleaned up and any pavement repairs completed before lanes can be re-opened to the public.

A TxDOT maintenance crew has been dispatched to the scene to assess damage and begin repair work.

The situation is expected to continue through the rush period. Because traffic is being routed to access roads and delays are expected to grow as traffic builds, travelers are urged to consider taking an alternate route.

Houston TranStar is a consortium of four government agencies that coordinate and enhance transportation and emergency management services, responding to incidents and emergencies in Harris County and beyond. Sharing their resources to serve area residents are: the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Harris County, Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) and the City of Houston.
