Houston Fire Department
News Release
Tuesday, May 01, 2012

Jaime Mata turned himself into authorities on Saturday evening telling arson investigators that his face was all over the news.  The widespread media coverage and the reward offered by crime stoppers left him no other option than surrendering.   Jaime Mata would not share with investigators the identity of the second person wanted in connection with the fire that occurred at 8011 Harrisburg on April 19, 2012.

Mata was charged with Arson, 2nd degree felony. He was seen in the 184th District Court today, April 30, 2012, where the judge raised his bond from $50 thousand to $100 thousand.

Crime Stoppers is still offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of Mata's accomplice.

The unknown male goes by the name of "Pepe" or "Pedro".  He has several distinct tattoos to his upper torso.  One tattoo over his left chest appears to be baby's feet with writing around it.  The suspect also has a large tattoo on his left shoulder and his left forearm.  If you have any information on the identity or the whereabouts please call 713-222-TIPS.
