Sugar Land’s 4th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony Set for May 28
Sugar Land, Texas - The fourth annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 28, at 10 a.m., at Sugar Land Memorial Park, 15300 University Blvd., is intended to honor members of the U.S. Armed Forces who have shown bravery and honor while serving their country.
The event - organized by the City of Sugar Land - will include a presentation of colors, tributes from members of the community, words of remembrance from local veterans and patriotic musical selections.
Numerous activities at the park are planned, including a flower station and a donation and care package booth supporting men and women serving overseas. Community members are asked to submit non-perishable items such as tuna/chicken packets, crew socks, granola/power bars, hand sanitizer, sunscreen and beef jerky.
The City will provide pre-paid post cards for those who want to send messages of gratitude to members of the U.S. Armed Forces stationed throughout the world.
While at the event, take time to visit the half-scale replica of Maya Lin’s Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial in Washington, D.C. The replica will be displayed at Memorial Park on May 24-28, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The exhibition is supported by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, established to preserve The Wall and the memory of more than 58,000 men and women who died while serving their country.
A free shuttle service between the parking lot at the University of Houston Sugar Land campus, 14000 University Blvd., and Sugar Land Memorial Park will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Limited handicapped parking will be available at the park. The general public is strongly encouraged to use shuttle services.
