Robert George Toler, 86, of Galveston, passed away of heart failure on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at UTMB Hospital, just two weeks shy of his 87th birthday.
He was born at home on 42nd and Ave Q on May 15, 1925, to Edna Bleimeyer Toler and Robert George Toler, Sr. He fondly remembered riding horseback down the sandy streets of West Galveston as a child. At the age of 18, Robert joined the US Marines where he was an aerial photographer in the Air Corps. He was stationed in the Marshall Islands during World War II. Always an entrepreneur, Robert was self-employed most of his life. In the 1960’s, he owned several filling stations, one of which was the Rocket Fuel Station on 28th and Broadway. He then became a commercial fisherman until he retired. Robert was an avid hunter and fisherman. He will be remembered for the great stories he told of his adventures.
Robert leaves behind his loving wife, Hoa Rose Toler from Saigon City, Vietnam; son and daughter-in-law, Barney and Victoria Toler, of Leander, TX; son, Robert George Toler, III, of Harrison, AK; grandsons, Kane and Ellis Toler; sister, Hilda Larson of Texas City, TX; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Robert’s family will receive visitors from 5:00 until 8:00 pm, Sunday, May 6th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, May 7th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. Private entombment will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
