Galveston Historic Homes Tour - Sunset on the Sand
by Jim and Lynda Guidry
Saturday, May 05, 2012

The 38th Annual Galveston Historical Foundation Historic Homes Tour is underway this weekend and next weekend.

On Friday evening, Tofigh Shirazi welcomed guests to Sunset on the Sand, a preview of Beachtown Galveston homes on the tour. Listen

“This is a milestone for us,” Shirazi said, referring to the opening of his Town Center building, which featured a loft unit on the tour.  “Texas is a big state, it is my adopted state; and Galveston is a crown for Texas and the Galveston Historic District is a gem in the crown.”

Shirazi says Galveston’s historic district is a very big museum.

“It’s one of the largest museums that can happen,” he said.  “And we are trying to seamlessly connect to it.”

Galveston Historical Foundation Past President Tom Schwenk and Executive Director Dwayne Jones agreed that Beachtown Galveston fits into the tour. Listen

“I’m excited,” Schwenk said.  “We’ve had a nice turnout.  Over 200 people are attending and we are looking for a great Homes Tour Weekend.

“This architecture is really beautiful and borrows from the historic architecture of Galveston and our historic buildings that we have on tour,” Jones said.
