Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the death of a baby found at 7115 Beechnut about 8 a.m. on May 2.

The suspect, Joseph DeeLee Mouton (b/m, DOB: 1-8-55), is charged with injury to a child in the 337th State District Court.  He is accused in the death of his son, Joseph Elijah Mouton, 6 months, of the above address.  A 2011 photo of Mouton is attached to this news release.  

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant O. Chandler and Officers K. McDonald and R. Hardy reported:

Mouton contacted emergency personnel and stated he was having suicidal thoughts.  When emergency personnel responded, they found Mouton unresponsive on the floor of his residence.  Neighbors then expressed concern for Mouton's infant son.  Officers searched the apartment and found the infant deceased in the refrigerator.  Mouton was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital for treatment of self inflicted wounds.

Investigators obtained a statement from Mouton admitting to his role in the child's death.
