Aquatic Mass Casualty Training Exercise to Precede Community Meeting
Galveston, Texas –With the start of hurricane season right around the corner, Island officials are encouraging the public to get prepared now. The City of Galveston will host its annual Hurricane Preparedness Town Hall Meeting at 6PM on Wednesday, May 30, at the Galveston Island Convention Center. The public is invited to arrive early and watch as local first responders conduct a training exercise on the beachfront an hour prior to the start of the meeting.

At 5PM the Galveston Marine Response Group will conduct a mass casualty training exercise on the beach and street in front of the convention center. This multi-agency response group comprised of the Galveston Fire Department, Galveston Police Marine Division, Galveston Island Beach Patrol, and Jamaica Beach Fire Rescue, was formed to more effectively manage aquatic emergencies. The public is invited to arrive early and watch the training drill.
As in year’s past, exhibits will open to the public prior to the start of the meeting. Elected officials, National Weather Service personnel, and representatives from UTMB, Galveston County, and the City of Galveston will make informative presentations. The public can address the speakers during a community Q&A session. Free hot dogs, cake, and drinks will be provided to all attendees.
