Congressional Art Competition Winner to be Announced at Reception

Houston – This Friday, May 11, Rep. Gene Green will announce the 29th Congressional District’s winner for the national Congressional Art Competition.  Media is invited to the art exhibition and presentation from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at the Houston Community College Northline Campus at 8001 Fulton Street.  The program will begin at 6:30 pm.

The nation-wide Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to recognize and encourage young artists and is open to high school students.  This year, more than 45 entries were received from high schools across the 29th District.

“It’s important that our youth know we support their artistic endeavors and this is a great opportunity for their work to be showcased,” said Rep. Green.

Congressional Districts across the country chooses a winning piece, which is then displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.  Every winner also receives a free trip to Washington, D.C. to attend the official winners’ reception.
