A neighbor's insight into Heidi Thiess
By Lisa Paul
Tuesday, May 08, 2012

Every day I pass different campaign signs while I am out driving around town and taking care of my family’s errands. I see different names running for various offices, but I don't know anything about these people who want my vote. I think most people are like me and wonder,  “Who are these people and what are they genuinely like?”   That's why I wanted to write a letter about Heidi Thiess, who is running for state representative in the 24th district. Heidi is my neighbor and I hope I can testify as to the kind of person she is.

I am no expert on politics, but I do know what it means to be a good neighbor. I figure if you want to know the truth about someone, you should live across the street from them. Some neighbors are simply what I call "hi, how are you" neighbors. They are always polite, offering a wave and a smile.  Heidi and her family are different. Heidi will drop everything and help you at the first call for need.  When our air conditioner broke, she and her family welcomed us into their home, no questions asked. No matter how busy she is, when I've had a problem navigating a website or other issue, she comes over to help. That is honestly typical of Heidi and her family - they want to help without ever expecting something in return.

I feel it is a true reflection of someone’s character when they really listen to you and are attentive while considering your opinion.  That certainly would describe Heidi.  And every time I talk to her I come away having learned something new. I feel blessed to have Heidi as my neighbor.  In my heart, I know Heidi will truly serve others and not herself, as she has clearly shown me in the way she cares about her neighbors.

One more thing about Heidi and her family…they keep their yard nice and surely that has to be a clear indication that she will make a great state representative!
