Heidi Thiess for Texas House District 24
News Release
Wednesday, May 09, 2012

League City, Texas - Heidi Thiess is very pleased to announce that she has been endorsed by former Republican presidential candidate, and retired U.S. Congressman Duncan Hunter for the Republican nomination for Texas State Representative of the 24th District. Both Heidi Thiess and Congressman Hunter served our nation honorably in the armed forces, and both still live by the oath they swore “to protect and defend the Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic."

After serving in Vietnam as an Army Ranger in 1970, Hunter successfully ran for Congress in 1980.  A charter member of the Reagan Revolution and a true conservative patriot, Hunter served as the Chairman of the Armed Services Committee during most of the Iraq war where he staunchly defended our military against liberal attacks that undermined the mission in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2007, when Senator Harry Reid declared that the "war is lost," Hunter called for his resignation.

As a leading member of Congress, Duncan Hunter took substantive action on illegal immigration, passing legislation requiring border barriers along our southern border. Like Thiess, Hunter maintains that if we are to have equality under the law the United States must enforce the immigration statutes that are already on the books. We must also equip our law enforcement with the tools necessary to protect our border and take away magnet jobs that draw illegal aliens to Texas.  Thiess means business on immigration, and that is one of the reasons why Duncan Hunter has endorsed her.  He says he is proud to endorse Heidi’s candidacy based on a philosophy of freeing up our economic sector, enforcing our borders, and restoring family values.

“There are few candidates who have demonstrated their commitment to principle as clearly as Heidi has in her lifetime,” said Hunter. “Heidi has been a long-time, consistent advocate for the Constitutional values of limited government and fiscal discipline.”

The Heidi For Texas campaign is very happy to receive the support of such a true American leader and staunch conservative. His vote of confidence indicates that Thiess will bring a strong conservative voice to Austin.
