Joseph Price named head coach at Grambling

BEAUMONT – After helping the Lamar University men’s basketball program to one of its most successful seasons in years, assistant coach Joseph Price has accepted the head coaching position at Grambling State University, the school announced Wednesday.

Price spent just one season at Lamar, but helped the Cardinals to a 23-12 record, the Southland Conference Tournament championship and to their first NCAA Tournament berth since 2000. Lamar’s top assistant was a part of the Cardinals’ first 20-win season since 1988 and their third highest win total ever.

"I'm really happy for him,” said LU head coach Pat Knight. “I’m really proud of him because he didn't just leave to become an assistant coach at a bigger school, but got a head coaching job. It's good to get the coaching tree started and hopefully it will continue to grow. He did a great job for me, and he'll do a great job for them."

Price, who also spent time as an assistant at Ball State and IUPUI, came to Lamar from Morehead State where he helped the Eagles to the second round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament after upsetting No. 11 Louisville in the opening round.
