The La Marque Independent School District Board of Trustees on Thursday voted unanimously to appoint Edna Courville as trustee for District 1.
Courville will fill the vacancy left by Travis Smith, who resigned his seat on April 12. Smith's term was to expire in 2013.
The board will still need to also appoint a trustee to fill a vacancy in District 2, following Saturday's election. Shirley Fanuiel, who currently holds the seat for District 2, filed for re-election but her application was rejected.
The board voted to call a meeting for May 21 to canvass the results of the May 12 school board election. Saturday's election will include the race for District 3, which is currently held by Cynthia Bell-Malveaux, who did not file seeking another term. Edward Stacey Crawford and Charles Ray, Jr. are on the ballot for the position.
The school board voted to approve an interlocal tax agreement with Galveston County for the assessment and collection of property taxes. The Galveston County Tax Office will provide assessment and tax collection services for the district for a per parcel fee.
All other items were approved by unanimous vote. Agenda
