CCCC of PTAs Welcome School District Administrators at General Meeting
League City
-- The Clear Creek Community Council of PTAs held their last general membership meeting for the 2011-2012 school year on May 3, 2012, at the Clear Creek ISD Education Support Center. Local PTA unit presidents and delegates from CCISD campuses met with CCCC of PTAs board members for a business meeting conducted by Council President, Diane Fatora.
Mrs. Fatora welcomed CCISD Superintendent, Dr. Greg Smith, who gave attendees a “Status of the District” and answered questions. Both Ms. Fatora and Dr. Smith next greeted Dickinson ISD Superintendent, Vicki Mims, to the meeting. Ms. Mims discussed how her school district is growing and thanked council for their warm welcome. There are two schools in DISD that are members of CCCC of PTAs, K.E. Little Elementary and Bay Colony Elementary.
Two “Campus in the Spotlight” recognitions were presented by Robin Latimore. Westbrook Intermediate PTA was recognized for their program, “What Every Parent Should Know Before Your Child Enters High School”. The program is a large group presentation, followed by a breakout session for all 8th graders and their parents to learn about high school. It covered information mainly from a parent and student perspective. Westbrook Intermediate PTA Program Chairman, Dane Brinsko, expanded the original program to include time to visit with parents and students from the different high schools
The second “Campus in the Spotlight” recognized was Victory Lakes Intermediate PTA for their “All Community Read” program. Tara DeAndrea, 2nd VP-Programs, presented an overview of the program that centered on reading the book, “The Revealers”, by Doug Wilhelm. VLI PTA purchased multiple copies of this book which has a bullying theme. After students read the book, they would participate in discussion groups, answer questions with coordination of the school librarian, and pass the book along to another student. Plans are to continue this successful program using sequels of this book.
