Municipal and School Board Elections
by Jim Guidry and Garrett Bryce
Monday, May 14, 2012

Election returns left incomplete Saturday night because of problems with equipment in the Galveston County Clerk’s office today are being posted by County Clerk Dwight Sullivan.  As they are posted Guidry News Service has been updating our Election Page.

Randy H. Strickland who led in Election Day voting for Hitchcock City Commission now has been declared the winner.

The complete count for the Texas City City Commission revealed no changes of winners and losers.  Rick Wilkenfeld and Thelma Bowie won their races.

Clear Creek Independent School District winners remain incumbents Page Rander, Dee Scott and Charles Pond.

A number of provisional votes were cast in communities with confusion about new districts.  Sullivan says the Galveston County Tax Office is processing those votes.  In some races there are enough provisional votes outstanding to change the results.

Not taking those provisional votes into account, here are the Galveston results:  Lewis Rosen will be in a runoff with Mayor Joe Jaworski.  Cornelia Harris Banks beat Tarris Woods for Galveston City Council District 1, Rusty Legg won the race for District 2, Elizabeth Beeton won the District 3 election, Dianna Puccetti and Norman Pappous will be in a runoff for District 4, Terrilyn Tarlton won the race for District 5 and Marie Robb won the race for District 6.

La Marque Mayor Bobby Hocking was reelected on Saturday.

Kevin Holland defeated Janis Lowe in a race for Mayor of Friendswood. Steve Rockey and Jim Hill won their city council races in Friendswood

Santa Fe Mayor Ralph Stenzel was reelected but a bond election for a new Public Safety Building failed. Santa Fe Police Chief Kenneth Campbell has posted his comments on the failure of the bond election. Click Here for his comments.

Matt Webber and Steve Jones were elected to Shoreacres City Council. Incumbent Nancy Schnell was defeated.

Robert Duncan won the most votes in a four person race for Seabrook City Council, but officials report that a recount will be required. Gary Johnson was elected to another city council position.

John Skelton was elected to El Lago City Council.

Diana Newland will face Edward Lapeyre in a runoff for Webster City Council; and Alexandra (Alex) Dietrich will face Carlos J. Villagomez in a runoff for the city council

Himesh Gandhi won a three person race for Sugar Land City Council.

Keith Ordeneaux will face Tammy Dexter in a runoff for Pearland City Council.

Port Arthur City Council Member R.E. "Bob" Williamson defeated challenger Zulema Escobedo. Willie "Bae" Lewis, Jr. defeated Jack Chatman, Jr.  The Port Arthur 4A Sales Tax for Children's and Amateur Sport and Athletic Purposes was approved.

Page Rander, Dee Scott and Charles Pond have won election of the Clear Creek Independent School District Board of Trustees.

Galveston County Clerk Dwight Sullivan said he appreciates the attention of the citizens to the process.
Listen

"I appreciate everyone for going out to vote, first of all," Sullivan said.  "Their votes count.  We had a couple of runoffs, which for some is a good sign.  It means that people are very interested in who represents them."

With the Municipal and School Board Elections being resolved, county clerks have turned their attentions to the Republican and Democratic Party Primary Elections on May 29.   Early voting in that election began today.
