Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe presents “Women of the Blues” Weekend May 18-19
GALVESTON – Two of Texas' hottest blues singers will perform back-to-back concerts May 18 and 19 at the Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe in Galveston during the “Women of the Blues” concert series.
On Friday May 18, Houston-born award-winning blues vocalist and scorching guitarist Carolyn Wonderland will take the stage. Wonderland, now a fixture on the Austin music scene who appeared on “Austin City Limits” in 2008, is touring to support her latest CD release, “Peace Meal,” co-produced by Asleep at the Wheel's Ray Benson and Michael Nesmith, an original member of the Monkees.
On Saturday May 19, Houston-born vocalist Myrna Sanders, gearing up for the release of her second solo CD release later this year, performs as Texas blues legend Janis Joplin with her band Kozmic Pearl, recreating the fiery blues sound that Joplin created with Big Brother & The Holding Company in San Francisco in the late 1960s. “I had no idea how much her music inspired me throughout my career until I pulled together this musical concert tribute,” says Sanders. “I’m hoping we can reach not only her long-time fans but turn on a new generation to her ground-breaking contribution to rock.”
