KACC to Host Alvin Live Concert Series

The KACC Alvin Live Summer Concert Series will kick off on June 7 with the performance of Mary Smith and Mystique.

The R&B musical act will play in the KACC studio on the Alvin Community College campus. Their songs are a mix of old school and new school tunes that include Motown and R&B hits.

Smith is a longtime singer who began her career at the age of 6. A daughter of a Baptist minister, she trained in a church choir before signing professionally.

Her voice led her to perform opening acts for Ms. Betty Wright and Bobby “Blues” Bland.

Also performing this summer will be the Honky Tonk Heroes on July 12 and Shake Russel on August 2.

The concerts are sponsored by the ACC Foundation.

ACC Live series uses the studio setting for its productions on 89.7 FM and KACC-TV, Cable Access Channel 16. The studio can seat 65 guests. Funds raised from Alvin Live performances are used for ACC Broadcast Communications student training and scholarships.

Mary Smith and Mystique will take the stage at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40.

For more information about the concert series call 281-756-3600.
