The  33rd Annual Police Officers Memorial Ceremony was held on Wednesday at the Joe Max Taylor Law Enforcement Facility. Listen

“On average, a law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty every 53 hours in the United States, said Master of Ceremonies Galveston County Sheriff Freddie Poor. “Since 1791 there have been over 19,000 law enforcement deaths in this country.  Those officers have given the ultimate sacrifice.”

The Keynote Address was delivered by Galveston County Criminal District Attorney Jack Roady.

“It is not how these officers died that made them heroes,” Roady said.  “But instead it’s how these officers lived, what they gave their lives for.  By acknowledging the profound significance of ‘why’ we can pay even greater tribute to them.”

The Color Guard was provided by Galveston County Area Law Enforcement.

The Bugler was Enrique Carbajal of the Houston Police Department.

The Invocation and Benediction were delivered by Reverend Bill King.
