Health District ready for third and final phase of move

Galveston County and Cities – On May 24th and 25th, the Galveston County Health District (GCHD) will begin the third phase of a planned three phase move to Galveston County’s new Mid-County Annex at 9850 Emmett F. Lowry Expressway in Texas City.   The third phase will relocate the Texas City Coastal Health & Wellness Clinic to the new facility.

During the two days of moving the Texas City clinic location, patients will still be seen at the Galveston clinic.  Officials expect the new Coastal Health & Wellness clinic in the Mid-County annex to be ready for normal operations by Tuesday, May 29th.

The District’s administrative offices moved during the first phase of the move in February. The second phase in April included the Galveston Area Ambulance Authority, Community Health Services and Environmental Programs.

The Mid-County Annex is the result of a bond issued passed by county voters in 2008 that included a new Animal Resource Center and a consolidated facility for Health District services, including the Coastal Health and Wellness Clinic in Texas City.

Besides the Mid-County Annex, GCHD has additional staff and services at EMS stations, WIC and immunization clinics in Dickinson and Galveston; and the Coastal Health and Wellness clinic site in Galveston.

With the completion of the move GCHD will maintain two customer contact centers and websites.  For Coastal Health and Wellness clinics, residents may call (409) 938-2234 or visit www.CoastalHW.org; for all other public health services call (409) 938-7221 or visit www.gchd.org

The new Coastal Health & Wellness Clinic will allow staff to work more efficiently in their mission to provide access to high quality primary care to any Galveston County resident.

“The Health District thanks voters and public policy makers for this new facility that will allow us to better serve the community,” says Dr. Mark Guidry GCHD’s Chief Executive Officer.  “During this time of transition we simply ask the public for their patience and understanding as we complete this big move.”
