Virtuosi of Houston Hosts Fourth Annual Summer Music Camp June 4-15
Concludes With Free Youth Chamber Orchestra Recital on Friday, June 15

WHO:           Virtuosi of Houston (Virtuosi; www.virtuosiofhouston.org) is a non-profit premier youth chamber orchestra composed of Houston’s most gifted young musicians aged 11 to 18 years old. The group is currently in its 16th season of chamber music performances.

WHAT:         Virtuosi of Houston debuted an educational program three years ago to provide string instrumentalists with quality chamber music training, and increase performance levels and opportunities.

This summer workshop includes repertoire classes in small ensemble chamber music, master classes and technique classes. Enrichment classes include Solfeggio sight singing, Alexander Technique, Deportment, and, new this year, Dalcroze Eurhythmics.

The summer music camp is unique because each small ensemble receives personalized instruction with several different acclaimed professional musicians, rehearses a varied repertoire, and performs daily.

Guest performers come from such esteemed arts organizations as the Houston Symphony, the Houston Grand Opera and the Houston Ballet.

Music Faculty:  Ivo Van Der Werff, Nicholas Leh Baker, Quan Jiang,                              Barret Sills

Youth attending the music camp will celebrate their musical achievements in a recital open to the public June 15, 2012, at 6 p.m. A reception will follow the performance.

Virtuosi is still accepting applications for any string players interested in attending this exceptional program. Applicants should be 11-18 years old and play at the intermediate level or higher. Payment plans are available through Virtuosi for interested applicants. Application forms are required and can be found at www.virtuosiofhouston.org. Underwriting opportunities are available for those interested in sponsoring a summer music camp attendee. Please contact the Virtuosi of Houston office at 713-807-0888 for more information.

WHEN:         Summer Music Camp: June 4-15, 2-6 p.m.

Recital: Friday, June 15, 4-6 p.m.

WHERE:       The Summer Music Camp and Recital will be held at the Virtuosi of Houston Studio, Memorial City Mall, Suite 235, Houston (The entrance nearest the studio is between Macy’s and Target, just south of the Katy Freeway eastbound service road.) For directions, please see

www.memorialcitymall.com for www.virtuosiofhouston.org.

WHY:              One goal for Virtuosi of Houston is to identify new orchestra members so Virtuosi welcomes participation by all eligible string players at an intermediate level or higher. Enrollment is limited so participants receive the greatest benefit from instructors.

“I cannot tell you how much my sons enjoyed coming to classes each day. Your program is outstanding and exemplifies examples of caring, integrity, excellence, dedication, and joy. Thank you for your caring and kind natures and for sharing your joy for music to help young musicians pursue their dreams.”
