The Texas General Land Office will celebrate World Oceans Day with the Texas Coastal Expo at Galveston's Moody Gardens from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 9.
In an interview with Guidry News Service, Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson said that that the free and family-friendly celebration of the Texas Coast is the biggest coastal expo in Texas. Listen
"Bring the kids, we'll have touch tanks full of live sea creatures, a giant sandcastle, a surf simulator and even a free bay tour available on Texas A&M's educational cruiser, the Earl Milan," Patterson said. "The Texas Coastal Expo is an action-packed day that's fun for all."
Patterson said the idea behind Texas Coastal Expo is nothing less than improving how Texans understand and care for their coast. "The more Texans know about the coast, the more they'll help to protect it," he said.
The Texas Coastal Expo will feature exhibits that explain and demonstrate coastal conservation efforts and wind power. There will also be treasure hunts and lots of free goodies and giveaways.
Texas Coastal Expo is sponsored by America's Wetland Foundation, Crowder Gulf and the Shaw Group as well as Sullivan Land Services, the Port Authority of Houston, the Coastal Conservation Association Texas, the Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program, Apollo Environmental and Coast and Harbor Engineering.
