ACC Receives State Grant Funds

Several Alvin Community College programs will receive new equipment after the college received a $923,000 grant from the Texas Workforce Commission.

“It allows us to expand more services to more students,” said Dr. Jim Kelly, ACC grant manager.

TWC approached ACC in April about grant funding and encouraged the college to apply, Kelly said.

ACC was considered for the grant because it has been successful with grants in the past.

“They wanted to put it into the hands of people they knew would use it well,” Kelly said.

Among the items that will be purchased with the grant fund include a semi-truck, digital x-ray machine, welding simulators, dental equipment, machine shop equipment and more.

The items purchased will benefit programs including Welding, Truck Driving, Dental Assistant and Radiology Technician.

The biggest benefit of the grant will be establishing a Machine Trades program at the Pearland Campus, Kelly said. ACC has received several requests for such a program by both students and area industry, he said.

All items for the grant must be purchased by the end of June.
