Esther Salinas Pena age 89 of Galveston passed away Friday, June 1, 2012 at CornerstoneHospital in Webster. Funeral services are 10:00 am Monday, June 4, 2012 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow at GalvestonMemorial Park in Hitchcock under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home of Galveston. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
Born July 28, 1922 in Sonora, Texas to Refugio Salinas and Juanita Cavazos Salinas, Esther was a lifelong member of PrimeraIglesiasBautistaChurch in Galveston. She loved her grandchildren who were the light of her life. She enjoyed singing the songs in church about God and his amazing love that he has for us. She will be forever remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Daniel Pena, Sr.; sons, Jesse Pena and Daniel Pena, Jr., 4 brothers . Survivors include daughters, Maria Gloria Gomez and husband William of Galveston, Esther Schilf and husband Eugene H. of Baton Rouge and Elvia Pena of League City and Janie Pena Thorton of Florida; sister, Concepcion Salinas of Rio Grande City, Texas; 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are grandsons, family and friends.
The family would like to thank Elmcroft Senior Living in Texas City, Felix Ombata and Gracey George, the RN’s at CornerstoneHospital who gave our mother peace during her last few hours of life.
