This Week on Stage

Performances and Concerts this week on stage in the Gulf Coast area include “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”, presented by Theatre Under the Stars at the Hobby Center in Houston, and Chubby Checker in concert at Miller Outdoor Theatre, also in Houston.

Theatre Under the Stars will present “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”, opening Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Hobby Center in Houston.

Join rowdy football boys, a gun-happy sheriff, curvaceous crazy cheerleaders and, of course, Miss Mona with her racy girls,” said a synopsis on the Theatre Under the Stars web site. “It’s ‘just one small thrill but there’s nothin’ dirty goin’ on’.”

Additional shows this week are on Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m, Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.  The production runs through June 17.

Miller Outdoor Theatre in Houston will host Chubby Checker in concert on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.

“Chubby Checker revolutionized our Culture with ‘Dancing Apart To The Beat’, when he introduced ‘The Twist’ to the world,” said the Miller Outdoor Theatre’s web site. “From Woodstock to the 21st century, artists and fans express themselves in a fashion that Chubby first presented to a national audience on American Bandstand in 1960.”

Miller Outdoor Theatre will host other events this week, including the TUTS Humphreys School of Musical Theatre’s production of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid, Jr.”.  Performances are Wednesday through Friday at 11 a.m.

Miller will also host District D Movie Night at Miller with a screening of “Joyful Noise” on Friday at 8 p.m.

Stage Door, Inc. in Pasadena continues its production of “The Sound of Music” this week, with performances on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.  The show runs through June 24.

The Bay Area Harbour Playhouse in Dickinson continues with “Is He Dead?” this week.

Performances are on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.  The show runs through June 24.

The Alley Theatre in Houston continues its production of “Noises Off”, with performances Tuesday through Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The show runs through June 24.

Alley Theatre will also wrap up its show, “What We’re Up Against” this week. 

Performances are Tuesday through Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

College of the Mainland Community Theatre will continue its production of “Bill W. and Dr. Bob” this week.

Performances this week are Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.  The show runs through June 17.

Clear Creek Community Theatre in Nassau Bay concludes its run of “The Man Who Came to Dinner” this week.

Performances this week are on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Main Street Theater in Houston will continue its production of “My Wonderful Day” this week, with performances on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.  The show continues through June 17.

Company OnStage in Houston wraps up “The Foreigner” this week.

Performances are on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.

Company OnStage’s also concludes “Cinderella” this week, with performances on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. 

Upcoming performances include Glen Campbell in concert at The Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston on July 8, and Agatha Christie's "Black Coffee", kicking off July 7 at the Alley Theatre.
