COM AND SAFETY COUNCIL ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP
FOR ELECTRICAL SKILLS TRAINING COURSE

College of the Mainland and the Safety Council of Texas City are partnering to launch a new program, Electrical Skills Training.
 
This two-year program provides the necessary training to become an electrician certified by The National Center for Construction Education and Research. Combining classroom instruction with an abundance of hands-on experience, the program is taught by an instructor with more than 30 years of experience in the industry.

The partnership between COM and the Safety Council of Texas City will benefit students. “We have the facility and instructors, and they have the industry customers,” said Mike Kukuk, COM director of continuing education. “It was a good fit.”

Now is an opportune time for students to enter the electrical field, said Kukuk. “The industry is crying for workers. There is a shortage of workers now and an even more critical shortage will occur with baby boomers retiring.”

“This is a pilot program of our coming together,” said Jim Gossett, Executive Vice President of the Safety Council of Texas City. “We’re excited and we anticipate good things to come.”

The initial course offering will be Electrical Level I, a 23-week course offered in the evenings for the convenience of working students.
