Bush Library and Museum Marks Juneteenth with Freedom Walk, Storytelling Program
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum joins the Bryan-College Station community in celebrating Juneteenth with the annual Freedom Walk and a storytelling program June 14 at the George Bush Presidential Library Center at Texas A&M University.
The Juneteenth Celebration begins at 9 a.m. with the Freedom Walk. The walk starts at the Lincoln Recreation Center and travels almost two miles to the Bush Library and Museum.
From 10:30-11:30 a.m. the Bush Library and Museum presents an educational storytelling program “Freedom’s Legacy: Drums, The Rhythm of Life” performed by Alafia at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center. “We are happy to be hosting our annual Juneteenth community-wide celebration,” said Bush Library and Museum Director of Education Dr. Shirley Hammond. “Juneteenth is a time for a general reflection about individual values and celebrating the strength of our community by supporting everyone's talents. Through our programming we connect to the importance of freedom, educational opportunities, and encouraging achievement.”
The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum presents the Juneteenth Celebration program in partnership with the Lincoln Recreation Center, Neal Recreation Center, North Bryan Community Center, Boys and Girls Club of Brazos Valley, Brazos Valley African American Museum and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
