Brazoria County Aviation Director Jeff Bilyeu said that the airport terminal authorized by the commissioners court this week is a cornerstone of an improvement process that he has been working on since joining the county five years ago. Listen
“In my short tenure we’ve done a runway reconstruction project that we began in the summer of 2009, completed in the summer of 2010,” he said. “We did a master plan for the airport during the same time frame.”
He said the master plan outlined the need for the new airport terminal.
“The terminal has been designed by a local architect, IAD Architects out of Lake Jackson, Brent Bowles is the architect that worked on this for us,” Bilyeu said. “The building is a general aviation terminal building designed for all the facets of general aviation.”
The new terminal will house the county airport staff, a fixed base operator, pilots lounge, rental car facilities, a flight school and other aviation related amenities.
“This was a need that we’ve had for quite some time,” Bilyeu said.
On Tuesday, Brazoria County Commissioners Court voted to accept the low bid of Teal Construction Company for a total of $2,789,000 and to authorize the Texas Department of Transportation Aviation Division to proceed with award of the contract so that the project can begin.
